Beschwerdeverfahren

If something in our reporting seems wrong or unfair, we want to hear about it. This page explains how you can raise a concern, what we will do with your complaint, and how you can escalate it if the outcome does not satisfy you. Please read it before contacting us – it will help us resolve your issue more quickly.

How do I submit a complaint?

Send your complaint by email to complaints@weltmeldung.de. That is the only channel we use for formal complaints – please do not use other contact addresses or social media for this purpose.

In your email, include your full name, a contact email address, and a clear description of what you believe is incorrect or inappropriate. If the complaint relates to a specific article, provide the headline, the publication date, and the name of the writer. Mention any relevant sources or evidence you have. The more concrete you are, the faster we can investigate.

What happens after I submit my complaint?

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint within two working days. Your email is forwarded to the fact‑checking team and the relevant section editor. They review the material against our editorial standards, check the original sources, and decide whether a correction, clarification, or other action is needed.

If the complaint is about a factual error, we will instruct the writer to prepare a correction and send it to the fact‑checking team for verification. Once approved by the editor, the correction is published and linked to the original article. If the complaint raises a broader concern about editorial judgement or fairness, it is escalated to Benjamin Albrecht, our Chefredaktör. He makes the final decision and will write to you explaining our position.

How this works in practice

Take a concrete example. You read an article about local government spending in Malmö that states a certain figure for the 2024 budget. You believe the figure is wrong because the municipality’s official report shows a different number. You email complaints@weltmeldung.de with the headline, the date, the writer’s name, and the correct figure from the official report.

Within two days we acknowledge your email. Our Politikredaktör, Felix Pohl, and the fact‑checking team, led by Vanessa Peters, compare the article with the source you provided. They confirm the error. A correction is drafted, reviewed by Chefredaktör Benjamin Albrecht, and published on the article page with a note explaining the change. You receive an email from us apologising and thanking you for bringing it to our attention. The whole process takes under a week.

Who oversees the process?

The complaints procedure is managed by Weltmeldung Media Ltd., the private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009, Malta Business Registry) that owns and operates Weltmeldung (weltmeldung.de). Editorial standards and publication decisions are the responsibility of Chefredaktör Benjamin Albrecht. He is the final point of escalation for any complaint that cannot be resolved at the editorial level.

We take complaints seriously because they help us improve. No member of our team is penalised for honest mistakes – we correct them openly and learn from them.

Where can I find related policies?

For details on how we correct errors, see our Corrections Policy. Our approach to editorial independence and accuracy is described in the Editorial Policy. If you have concerns about how we handle your personal data during the complaints process, please read our Privacy Policy. General contact details, including postal addresses for formal correspondence, are on our Contact page.

These documents together form the framework that governs how we respond to feedback and maintain trust with our readers.

In short

We aim to handle every complaint fairly, transparently, and without delay. Send a clear email to complaints@weltmeldung.de and we will investigate promptly – if we have made a mistake, we will correct it and let you know what changed. Your feedback makes our journalism more reliable, and we thank you for it.
