Berichtigungspolitik

If you come across an error in any article on Weltmeldung.de, we want to know about it. This page explains our approach to corrections, how to report mistakes, and what you can expect from us. Our goal is to correct the record quickly, transparently, and without defensiveness.

How do I report an error?

You can report any error by emailing our dedicated corrections address at corrections@weltmeldung.de. Our editorial team reviews every report carefully and responds promptly. Please include the article URL, a short description of what you believe is wrong, and – if possible – your source for the correct information.

Reports are handled by our standards desk under Vanessa Peters, our head of fact-checking (factcheck@weltmeldung.de). You may also use the general contact form at /about-us/contact/ if you prefer, but the corrections address ensures your report reaches the right person first.

What happens after you report an error?

Once we receive your report, our standards desk under Vanessa Peters evaluates the claim and determines whether a correction is needed. We aim to acknowledge receipt within two business days. Material errors – those that affect the factual accuracy or fairness of an article – will be corrected with an update and a clear correction note.

The correction note is placed at the top of the article, stating what was wrong, when the change was made, and what the correct information is. For minor errors (e.g. a typo or a date), we may simply update the text and log the change internally. If the error is significant, we may publish a separate correction notice or, in rare cases, retract the article entirely. You can read more about our broader editorial standards in our Editorial Policy.

Can I escalate a correction if I am not satisfied?

If you believe your correction report has not been handled fairly, you may escalate the matter to our editor-in-chief, Benjamin Albrecht (anders.lindqvist@weltmeldung.de). He will review the case personally and ensure our process has been followed correctly. We take all complaints seriously and will explain our reasoning in writing.

For complaints that go beyond a factual correction – for example, about bias or ethical concerns – please see our separate Complaints Procedure. That process also provides a route to an independent third party if you are still unhappy after speaking with us.

How this works in practice

Imagine we published an article stating that Sweden’s inflation rate in January was 3.2 %, when the official figure from Statistics Sweden was actually 2.8 %. A reader emails corrections@weltmeldung.de with a link to the article and a screenshot of the official data. Our fact-checking team verifies the correct figure within 24 hours. The editor who oversaw the original piece reviews the report, confirms the error, and approves a correction. The article is updated: the old figure is replaced, and a box appears at the top reading: “Correction (20 Feb 2025): An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated Sweden’s January inflation rate as 3.2 %. The correct figure is 2.8 %. We regret the error.” The correction is also logged in our internal corrections register. The reader receives a thank‑you email and, if they wish, is credited in the correction note.

This same procedure applies whether the error was introduced by a human writer or by an AI‑assisted tool. As stated in our AI & Automation Policy, all content is reviewed by a human editor before publication, but mistakes can still slip through. When they do, we fix them openly.
