Unsere Geschichte

If you’re looking for Swedish news that explains the context behind the headlines, without noise or spin, this page tells you why Weltmeldung exists and how we work. You’ll find our founding story, editorial philosophy under Benjamin Albrecht, a look at our newsroom structure, details of our funding, and a practical example of our approach. Use the links throughout to explore our team, policies, and ways to get involved.

Why was Weltmeldung founded?

Weltmeldung was founded in 2024 by Weltmeldung Media Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009, Malta Business Registry). The aim was simple: fill a gap in clear, practical Swedish news for readers who want context without oversimplification or sensationalism. Existing coverage often buried the story in noise; we wanted to offer a reliable alternative that helps readers understand complex issues.

Our registered office is at Office 9, Business Centre, Valletta, 0000, and our editorial team operates from Sweden. The publication is independent: no political party, government, or corporate parent dictates our coverage. Our tagline, “Nachrichten, Analysen und Hintergründe für Deutschland,” reflects our commitment to serving German-speaking readers with trustworthy journalism about Sweden.

What is our editorial philosophy?

Under Chefredaktör Benjamin Albrecht, our editorial mission is straightforward: trustworthy Swedish journalism that helps readers understand complex issues without spin or oversimplification. Every article is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor, and fact-checked before publication. AI-assisted tools may support research or drafting but never replace human editorial judgement; every piece is approved by a human editor.

Our philosophy demands that we explain the “why” behind the news. We avoid clickbait headlines, vague sourcing, and partisan framing. Instead, we present the facts, the context, and the competing perspectives – and let you draw your own conclusions. We also commit to correcting errors promptly and transparently, as outlined in our corrections policy and fact-checking policy.

Who makes up the newsroom?

Our team is led by Benjamin Albrecht, who is responsible for editorial standards, publication decisions, and corrections. The daily newsroom is managed by Stefanie Otto, Redaktionschef, who oversees headline review and commissioning. Felix Pohl covers national and local politics as Politikredaktör; Petra Schneider reports on the economy, markets, and household finances as Wirtschaftreporter; Andreas Krüger handles culture, lifestyle, and society as Kultur- och samhällsredaktör; and Vanessa Peters leads fact-checking and source verification as Ansvarig för faktagranskning. You can read more about each editor on our team page.

Every writer and editor is named on their articles. We believe that transparency about who wrote and reviewed a story builds trust with our readers. If you have a question about a specific piece, you can contact the journalist directly using the email addresses listed on our contact page.

How do we ensure accuracy and transparency?

Accuracy is built into every step of our process. Each article is sourced with references to primary documents, official reports, or named experts where possible. Our Sources and Standards page explains how we verify information. We also maintain a detailed editorial policy that covers everything from corrections to conflicts of interest.

When we get something wrong – and no newsroom is perfect – we correct it promptly and note the change. Our corrections policy and fact-checking policy are public. We also have a formal complaints procedure if you believe we have fallen short. Vanessa Peters’ fact-checking team reviews every article before publication, and any reader can email factcheck@weltmeldung.de with concerns.

How is Weltmeldung funded?

Weltmeldung is funded through display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, and content licensing. Sponsored or commercial material is clearly labelled, and affiliate links are disclosed. Commercial relationships never determine editorial conclusions – our journalists decide what to cover and how to cover it, independent of our sales team.

Our ownership is transparent: Weltmeldung Media Ltd., registered in Gibraltar, owns the publication. The full details are on our ownership and funding page. We also publish an advertising and affiliate disclosure and a sponsored content policy so you know exactly what is paid for and what is not. For any questions about our business model, you can email advertising@weltmeldung.de or publisher@weltmeldung.de.

How this works in practice

Let us walk through a concrete example. Suppose we publish an article on Sweden’s housing market: “Rising mortgage rates push first-time buyers out of Stockholm.” This story will be researched by Petra Schneider, our Wirtschaftreporter, using data from Statistics Sweden, the central bank, and interviews with economists. She drafts the piece, which then goes to Stefanie Otto for editorial review. Vanessa Peters’ team checks every figure against the original sources. If any data point is unverifiable or ambiguous, we either remove it or clearly note the uncertainty. The final version is approved by Benjamin Albrecht before publication. The article carries Petra’s byline, a link to the sources used, and a note about any correction that may later be issued. If a reader spots an error, they can email corrections@weltmeldung.de and we will investigate and publish a correction within 48 hours. That is the standard we hold ourselves to for every story.

In short

Weltmeldung delivers clear, practical Swedish news with context you can trust. We are independent, transparent about our funding, and rigorous in our editorial process. We invite you to read our articles, subscribe to our newsletter for regular updates, and send us tips if you have a story we should cover. Our door is always open.
